Friday morning, I was up first and used the time to catch up on emails and clean up. Once Sander got up, we once again watched 'Lone Star', another favorite. Sara arrived from the doublewide and annouced her plans to make migas, so I got to chopping tomatoes and onions. We all had a big breakfast and before long Rick Winner showed up on his way back to Houston. Too bad he couldn't stay awhile longer. Pretty soon after that, Linda had to go back to Laredo to check on Mikey the Cat and his family. Then it was time to gear up and head for the garage for a little bit of bike maintenece before hitting the trails again.

Once again, we were blessed with beautiful weather and mild temperatures. On this day, we would concentrate more on the lower trails down by the river that snake through the trees and present the challenges that always come from tree trunks and handlebars. There is also some nice hills where you only give it enough gas to clear the top as you must be at almost a standstill once cresting so you can steer through the trees.

In the afternoon, Bill and Hattie showed up from down the road in Utopia. Hattie took the fine action shots that acompany this blog and I'm forever grateful for them. Bill rode trials bikes and competed in the Intermediate class in the 80s and some of the guys he introduced to the sport are still active competitors. He took a ride on my Montesa and I think there will be a new trials bike in his stable before long. It was his first time on a modern trials machine and he was very impressed.

We rode all afternoon taking breaks now and then and during one of them, I took a ride on Sander's new Yamaha TDM850. I found nothing not to like about it. It's light, fast, narrow, comfortable, and even though I didn't get to ride it hard, it seems to handle really well.

When it was too dark to continue playing in the woods, we loaded up and headed for a little Mexican Cafe over in Hondo. The food was superb as was the companionship. The service left a lot to be desired and someone had to go off in search of the waitress more than once.

After supper, we all retired to the parking lot so Sander could take more pictures. Then we hugged Bill and Hattie and sent them back to Utopia. The rest of us piled into Sara's van and we headed back to Castroville and hit the sack pretty soon after arriving.
