Well folks, the time is drawing ever more near. I now have the physical mailing address where packages and letters can be sent to me. Please use the format below:
PCT Trevor T. Ivey
Cuerpo de Paz
Chaco Boreal 162, c/Mcal. Lopez
Asuncion 1580
Paraguay
Just a few reminders and tips to consider when writing to me. RPCV's have told me that their biggest disappointment during training and while at post is the lack of mail that they receive from family, friends, and other loved ones at home. Sure, I will have internet access while visiting the PC office or in the city, but nothing sure beats a letter in snail mail all the way from home. It takes approximately 38 days for a letter to reach Paraguay; longer for packages. Please don't let that discourage you from writing to me. Also, I must warn you that the Paraguayan postal system is not nationalized, and therefore, it is not as reliable and efficient as the USPS. Again, please don't let that discourage you. Often times, letters and packages are opened--items are taken and enourmus duties are charged in order to retrieve it from the postal offices. Peace Corps official policy is to recommend that items be sent to their official office--this in and of itself is like a stamp saying "don't mess with the Americans." RPCV's have reported that their is a greater success rate in packages retaining their normal shape and natural contents if they are sent to Cuerpo de Paz in Asuncion. Also, I would encourage you to scribble religious marks all over the package--Bible verses, phrases, and the works...as Paraguayans are extremely superstitious people. They will view the letter/package as taboo in the event that it must be sent to me at post or somewhere else besides the official establishment in the capital city.
With that said, I would greatly appreciate you remembering me when you have the time to write through snail mail. On that note, also let me take this opportunity to say that care packages would be very much appreciated. Some things that I have thought that I might really be happy to receive include the local newspaper (The Item), Oreo Cookies, Texas Pete Hot Sauce, Girl Scout cookies (yummy - it's that time of year again!), popcorn, various spices and seasonings, etc.
Let me not be greedy though...LOL! Until next time...
Your ambassador to the world, Trevor
