On my final morning in Goreme, I took out the car and drove to the fairy chimneys, a unique collection of rock spires that resemble chimneys due to being topped by a triangular-shaped rock. A very strange and natural formation. We then hopped the bus with the Iranians for Konya, and after parting, took a separate bus for Egirdir. On the bus we passed the time with Aadyn, the bus waiter, and Inci, the college student. We had a good time translating and attempting to communicate and they helped the bus time pass rather quickly. Arriving in Egirdir, which is supposed to be a beautiful lake spot that was the main stop on the ancient highway between Ephesus and Babylon, we were greeted with torrid wind and rain. Basically, this contiuned all night and the next day prompting our expedient departure without seeing much of the local area other than that which resided directly outside of our hotel windows. :(
Travel Advice: Stay at the Lale Pension ( http://www.lalehostel.com ) - extremely friendly and helpful staff and very nice rooms with a great view of the lake.
