After having been back in Korea for a month it was far past time to take a vacation.  Vietnam was the plan, but that fell through for a multitude of reasons.  A solid backup plan was to head to the Philippines, as well as to take a visit to Singapore and hang out with the lovely girls we had met previously in Borneo.  Leaving a week before Chris, and having visited the Phils a few years ago, I dedcided to head for an area I hadn't been to before, which is rather easy to do in the Phils with its 7,100 islands!  I chose Busuanga, north of Palawan, which is popular for its WWII wreck diving.  The flight in was on a tiny prop-engine seaplane, followed by a 45 minute ride on rustic "roads" on a jeepney, a converted and extended jeep used all opver the Philippines for local travel (see photo).   The little town of Coron is the capital, nestled between the sea and the mountains, and is the gateway to the Japanese fleet that was wiped out by American hellcat bombers long ago.  The main activity here is wreck diving and I have to say it is fantastic diving.  It's rather difficult to describe the feeling of swimming through a 60 year old gun or supply ship lying on the sea floow at 40 meters  (~120 feet).   It's also amazing how the sea coral  has the ability to consume and adapt anything left behind into part of its ecosystem.  Unfortunately, I did not have my underwater digital camera case with me, so I have few photos to share.  Again, swimming/diving through an ancient ships galley, cargo holds and navigation deck is quite an experience and shouldn't be missed.  Definitely go if you have the chance!  On my final day, I rented a moped and cruised the island's "natural highway system", taking in beautiful tropical views and experiencing the wonders of small island culture and life .  As always, I met some really great people  (British, French and German mostly) and made a few new friends.
