I awoke to spacious and amazingly green countryside in southern Mongolia. Strange observation - I've seen more birds in two hours on this train in Mongolia than I did in one years time spent in China! After some interesting scenery we pull into Ulan Bator and as you begin to enter the city limits you see all these white dots, which you just figure to be the roofs on the houses and as you get closer you realize that its not houses but gers or yurts (traditional Mongolian tents) scattered around everywhere and even in between actual houses. Many of them have fences and their own yards and these are the local peoples houses!
Upon arriving, Dave and I get driven to the guesthouse, along with two Brits. We checked in and inquired about treks out to the desert and ger camps and got lots of information. It was raining intermittently all day and just looked around a lot.
The weather got worse as the night progressed and then it turns out that our dorm room is adjacent to a disco club that blasts music all night long, which would absolutely keep my awake all night long, so I walk over to the next building and semi-crash on the office sofa, just really hating life right now! haha
