While being forced to wait 7 days for my Russian visa, I had plenty of time to look around the Seoul area and hang out with new and old friends. On the weekend, I hung out with a bunch of guys from the hostel (New Zealand, British, Canadian) and then John and Claire from camp showed up, Claire with a busted from tumbling down the stairs at camp. Both nights were fun as Seoul has many nightlife areas. The next few days involved lounging around the hostel not spending money mixed with a few outings to local sights. The first was Changdeoksung, an ancient Korean royal palace in the middle of Seoul. John and I took the tour (you HAD to take the tour - required) and it was okay, but Korean architecture isn't about massive sight or impressive displays, but more focuses on intricate design, so it is quite easy to miss the subtle aspects of he place. Another outing was to Yongsan electronics market, the worlds' largest elec. market in the world and it must be as there are 12 buildings filled with electronic and each building is 8 stories high and just massive. Another day was Dongdaemon, crazy street markets all over the streets surrounding the local soccer and baseball stadiums. There were other places and other people as well, like Sean from Ireland and Senna from Holland and out DVD room outing, but actually I'm both tired of writing about South Korea and anticipating traveling to Europe too much to continue to blather on about killing time in Seoul! So I got my Russian visa and tomorrow am off to the airport so I can get to Beijing so I can get to Mongolia and Russia!
