Mostly just a transit day as I'll take a train to Guangzhou and then fly to Taiyuan. It was funny because on the train which travels from HK to mainland China, you could tell the exact point where you crossed the "border"...suddenly there were fewer trees and they seemed less healthy, the apartment building walls became dirtier as we traveled further from HK, I could even tell which people on the train were living in HK or from China! I did meet a nice woman named Sarah who lived in China but worked for Merrill Lynch in HK and in Guangzhou she was really helpful and led me to the airport bus station, which I would not have found without her. Later when I arrived at the airport, even though I was 30 minutes early they said the plane was closed which I thought was strange so I asked again and they said the plane DOORS were actually already closed! I couldn't believe it but they booked me a later flight, which of course ended up being further delayed. So I read my USA Today that I brought with me from HK, ate, had some fun with the waitresses, called my mom with my leftover phone card, and listened to some Nirvana until the plane was ready. Paul had the school arrange a car to pick me up and I was so glad, especially arriving so late and I finished this round of travels back at my school apartment.
