After a fairly sufferable 24 hours in transit, we arrived in Paraty about 6pm and were dispatched to our hotels. There weren't enough rooms all at the same place, so we were in two separate sections of the same hotel (a couple of streets apart). We went out and shopped for breakfast goodies (cornflakes and milk), then went out with a few of the others for dinner. "Weigh and Pay" was the style of the restaurant, and an ok feed was had by all. We found cocktail stalls near the main square, which was good ... coz we had an appetite for Caipirinhas!

Apparently Paraty is normally pretty quiet around this time (coming into winter), but we arrived at the start of the Corpus Christie Festival, so town was pretty crowded and going off! There was heaps of music, etc.

The next day, the group did a boat tour. We went out on a schooner for 5 hours, stopping at a couple of really nice beaches along the way. We had a great fish and chicken meal for lunch - cooked right on the boat! We swam, snorkelled, sunbathed and generally had a really nice, relaxing time.

When we returned, Ian and I walked up to the old fortress. Although there really wasn't much to see up there, we got some nice views of the town below.

On the last night, we headed back to our food and cocktail stalls. We had some fresh stirfry noodles ... and way too much to drink!!!!! Mainly caipirinhas (again!) but in way larger quantities than the night before. In the end, Ian had to drag me home, convincing me that it was ok to throw away the last drinks in my hand, coz I really didn't need anymore! Whilst we were late returners, we still managed to beat some others home by a good few hours.

The next morning there were quite a few sore heads within the group, although I was not one of them. I will admit however, to throwing up my noodles upon returning to our room (and then feeling instantly sober ... go figure!) something I have only ever done once before! Ian begs to differ about me being 'instantly sober', as he gave up trying to put me in my PJs, thus spending the night in my clothes! What can you expect from a drink that is all alcohol, except for a bit of squished lime and some sugar & ice!!!!!

We got up, had breakfast, then jumped on a 2 hour bus & a 90 minute boat ride to the island paradise of Ilha Grande.
