On our way to Wanaka we passed Fox Glacier which is the second famous one in New Zealand, we took a walk right up to the face of it and it was much like Franz Joseph in many ways, but the climb onto Franz was a lot more gradual. There is only three glaciers in the world that are very unique as they sit next to rainforests, and these are two of them. The other one we saw in South America so it was good to tick Fox off the list.
We then drove on to Wanaka which is a beautiful lakeside town and best of all the sun was shining, people were sat outside of bars and children jumping in the lake. We managed to get a great deal on a hostel with free wifi which is quite rare in New Zealand as everyone charges for wifi it's ridiculous. We enjoyed the sun in the afternoon and the following day we drove to a place called Puzzle World where there is a huge 1.5km maze, we entered the maze and were told we had to find every corner (red, yellow, green, blue) before we could leave the maze. We really thought we would get through this in about twenty minutes...Oh how wrong were we!
We were probably in there about 45 minutes, it was so funny because we kept passing the same people and the longer this went on the angrier they looked, we could hear people swearing and arguing. At one point we split up and when I looked up Justin was stood in the Yellow Tower laughing at me trying to find my way...cruel! Apparently people walk an average of 5km trying to do this puzzle, so I looked at it as a good workout. We then headed into the illusion room which was full of optical illusions and 'now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t’ visual tomfoolery, for example one room was built on a slope but all the objects in it are level, it left us dizzy and very confused. In the toilets there was a painting of a roman toilet block and the loo’s were built in so we could pose sat on the loo, great fun had here! When we were finished we sat in the cafe for a cuppa and the table was full of puzzles to complete so we sat there for another hour trying them out.
Justin spent most of the afternoon flushing Ton’s pipes out so we can get heat in the vents and I took advantage on the free wifi. When I woke up in the morning Justin had a bruise under his eye, it turns out he was playing a game on his iod and fell asleep hitting himself in the face...so funny it looked like I'd hit him - battered boyfriend!
