It was a perfect bus journey to Surfers Paradise, a total of 1 hour and 45 minutes, excellent! It is a great surfer town, with high rise buildings towering over the golden beach. We tried to check into the hostel we had planned to stay in and they only had a 14 bed dorm, we were both really tired off schoolie mania in Byron Bay so we decided to stay at a smaller hostel in Southport which sits a 5 minute drive out of surfers Paradise. The hostel was great, very friendly with a free breakfast and the manager gave us a double room for $5 more than a dorm which was really nice. We stayed two nights and the weather was very hot with rain, so we grabbed our waterproofs and headed to the shopping centre to buy a new camera. We caught the free hostel bus into Surfers Paradise the following day to meet up with Dave and Karen (a couple we met in New Zealand) for lunch, it was great catching up with where they have been and exchanging stories over a few beers. We all agreed to meet up again for some drinks on the night as it seemed a really lively town, then Justin and I continued our shopping. We were in one shop and whilst he was trying on some shorts I was chatting to the pretty little sales girl from New Zealand, we chatted about New Zealand and how great it is, she continued to explain that she loved it in Australia but the pressure to look good was a nightmare, I found it a little hard to agree with her whilst I stood there soaking wet in my Goretex coat, complete with boy shoes on. I politely nodded before leaving the store.
That evening we met Dave, Karen and a couple from Liverpool Jay and Kate. We hung out drinking Vodka at the back of their camper vans whilst Jay told us all about his appearance on Masterchef last series (apparently he made it to the quarter final), he had various invites to work with chefs one being in Paris, so they were on honeymoon travelling their way round the world to end in Paris. That day Dave and Karen had been to Versace Hostel to spot Ant and Dec but apparently they don't stay in that hotel whilst filming so they settled with a picture of Dom Jollly instead so we all had a bit of a laugh about that. When the vodka ran dry we headed into town, it was a great night out after Jay pinched a guys florescent cable hat we took it apart and had heaps of fun messing about. Karen heard on the local radio that day that Mcdonalds were giving away free chicken Mcbites 11pm – 12pm so we all headed to Mcdonalds for a free feed, Dave went up first and asked for 8 boxes and got them, so Karen then went up and got a further 8 boxes, we all took it in turn to grab these wonderful freebies. When it was my turn to go up the manager stepped in and said we were only allowed one box per person, so we kept on coming one after another chicken after chicken. The manager then caught on to us and said the offer had ended even though it was 11.30om. We retreated and counted all the boxes we had and we had eaten a total of 160 Mcbites between us and on the way out of Mcdonalds proceeded to tell everyone about the offer. All the nuggets had given us enough energy to head to another bar for a good old dance. The following day smelling of chicken we caught a bus to Brisbaine , Dave and Karen headed back to the Vesace Hotel all dressed up to see the celebrities out of the jungle, it was so funny to see their facebook page a white wash of z list celebs the following day.
