This was a town we were very excited to visit as it's the adventure capital in New Zealand, well it is if you like throwing yourself of cliffs and bridges etc. It’s fair to say I didn’t spend much money in this town.  It’s nestled in a valley with a lakeside harbour that has numerous boat trips leaving from and all the mountains were snow-capped. But more to the point it is home to the best steak and mushroom pies I have ever tasted. (Bought 4 to take away with us)  We found a campsite in the centre which was great so we were only a 5 minute walk to the copious amount of bars and shops.  I decided we get out and taste some of the amazing brewed Ales on offer we sat and planned a pub crawl that would give us the best tasters. Our beerfest results are as follows;

1)      Alpine Ale 7/10
2)      Monteiths (summer ale) 5/10
3)      Mac Ale 8/10
4)      Speights premium ale 9/10

Queenstown has the most pubs we have seen the whole trip so what a great place to take advantage of it.  We also had a drink in an Irish Bar and saw our friends name on the wall for drinking 100pints (100pint club) Well done Marc!

Justin had planned to do a Canyon Swing, but the following day he didn’t feel on top form and it was raining all day so we wandered around the town and had a sister in the afternoon, then took Tony to a local garage to get a new boot fitted...don’t ask me! All I know is it took a couple of hours so Justin decided to get his fro cut.  Nice cockney barber lots of chit chat, then a police car pulled up and took him outside for a 'chat’, turns out he had been speeding and got himself a nice little fine.  I could see Justin was a little worried that the cut wouldn’t be finished if he was arrested, but he wasn’t.  All done, Tony fixed we headed back to our clinical TV room to chill out.  We also had a cinema afternoon, which was great...for me as it was a chick flick, de agreed to go for a few ales then grab a bag of chips to take back to the campsite for tea, as we were running across the road to the chippie I tripped over the curb and fell over outside the chip shop in a fit of giggles, classy girl!

The following morning the sky was bright and Justin felt better, yes that’s right – time to jump of the canyon, well not me of course......someone has to watch the coats ey!  We all met the other jumpers at the shop in town and we watched video clips of people jumping, I can honestly say I have never felt so smug in my whole life, all the others were very quiet and we all waited. The bus took us up to the canyon which only took about 10 minutes then we walked along the edge to the swing hut.  Now with this swing you freefall drop 60meters then you swing through the canyon and there are many ways to jump off with lots of very unique names, and the level of scariness is graded but underpants ranging from 1-5 5 underpants being very scary.  And best of all the guides who strap you in, are really funny and mess about with everyone as they stand on the edge. One of the guys went first and decided to be strapped to a plastic chair, the back two legs of the chair are at the edge and he has to lean back until he falls with the chair strapped to him.  The funny thing was he had to do it himself, which is hard to do, and every time he did and was far back enough to fall the guys would pull him back, his face was white, it was funny to watch.  When he eventually fell it was awful, I felt like I had watched someone commit suicide.  Justin next and he wanted to just jump off and spin on the way down, his face was white and he looked absolutely petrified there is no two way about it he was scared, but he eventually jumped off...crazy dude!  There was one girl who jumped and when she was pulled back to the top I asked her how it was and she said "Oh it was lovely" hello...lovely!  Not the word I would have used, but really funny to hear.  After Justin’s head stopped spinning we jumped in the car to head to Milford Sound.
