The Highlands have some of the most spectacular scenery we have ever seen. The photos we have taken just don't do it justice. We did some hiking around Fort William, travelling on foot to a secluded Glen with a magnificent waterfall. Apparently some Braveheart scenes were filmed around this area. The waterfall could only be accessed by a three rope bridge.....Yes we did cross it.
The next day we travelled further into the Highlands to Eilean Donan Castle. This was the Castle used for the film Highlander. It actually belonged to Clans Macrae and Mackenzie, not Clan Macleod as stated in the movie. Just look at the photo, it's in a stunning location.
We then drove to a remote area on the Island of Skye. It was a narrow road we shared with sheep and cows. We then walked in the wet and rain searching for an ancient stone circle. We glimpsed it from afar but could not get close. It was just too wet.
Eventually we found ourselves in Durness, as far north as one could possibly go. We drove through such desolate but beautiful terrain it's difficult to describe without experiencing it for yourself. Here we explored Smoo Cave and went for a short walk along the rugged North coast.
We stopped at one lonely crumbling tower called Ardvreck Castle. It is said ghosts haunt the 16th century ruin. One is the daughter of a clan Macleod Chiefton, who supposedly threw herself from the tower after making a pact with the Devil. The other ghost is a man in grey who is occasionally seen by the lakeside.
Travis has at last count eaten three meals of haggis. Nat has managed a mouthful!

Hi Kids. What magnificent scenery. Especially love the picture of
Eilean Donan Castle. Countryside looks untouched. Nat, can't
believe you walked over that rope bridge. A new talent emerging !
Travis, very brave eating haggis...sorry but not our scene.
Suppose you heard, but Collingwood defeated West Coast by
20 pts, and in NRL Broncos won by 30.
Keep up the blogs, they are great. You two are going to find it hard
coming back to the madness of suburbia.
Yep scenery is magnificent. Photos don't do it justice, especially that waterfall. Go those mighty pies.
Nat, you've done better than me - the one mouthful of haggis I had didn't stay down - Travi, I can't believe you are actually eating that stuff!!
Loving the journey and reminiscing like crazy as I hear some of your stories, can't wait to see what you do with all this when you get home.
Nat, if I don't speak to you prior, Happy Birthday for Wednesday - goodness knows what Travi has up his sleeve but sure to be something wonderful.
Well it has to be now !!! Happy Birthday for Wed Nat.
Happy birthday Natalie. September is a good month. Brian on the 7th, my Mum's would have been 8th and mine 10th. I had a red wine for Mum on the 8th. Your birthday shout to us was a night at the Hawthorn and Geelong final last Friday night. (not sure you know this yet Trav) It was a disappointing result for me , but a great experience. It was a freezing cold night, I'm sure as cold as Scotland. Nat you did a great job crossing the rope bridge at Fort William. The thought of that very cold water underneath would have been to much for me. I would love to climb Ben Nevis though, its a little higher than Kinabalu. No! I said I had retired from high climbs. Brian is up for it though. Taste testing the malt whisky might be more my go now. Couldn't come at eating haggis neither. Sheep lungs and heart stuffed in intestines is just not appealing. Is it hard driving in such mountainous countryside? It sure looks beaujtiful. Look forward to more of your adventures. Love M & D.
We didn't climb to the summit of Ben Nevis(my knee couldn't handle that). But we did climb quite high to get that shot of the waterfall.
Trudi: Haggis is my new favorite meal, may try and cook some when you and Mark are over next ;)
Happy Birthday Nat for Wednesday!!!
Haven't read any of your travels yet but will catch up on it....we're soo jealous!
I did fast forward to Hampton. Well done Travis, must of been nerve-wrecking carrying the ring and all! Congrats again, Nat, now I can bring out the Martha Stewart Wedding mags when you get back!!!
Have a great day 2m :) love and big kisses from us msjf xxxx
Thanks for transporting us from our mundane life! Scotland looks lovely, never been there! Did you see any highland cattle?
Hiya Kids
The fab pics continue....wow reminding me of driving around Northern Ireland...very similar landscapes and animals on the road etc.
That rope bridge looks a little too precarious for me but well done to both of you esp. Nat.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY for tomorrow Nat!! I'm sure you will be having yet another very memorable day. Oh what a trip ....and you are not yet halfways.
Enjoy xo
