Next stop, Allepy or Allaphuza, place of the Kerala backwaters. We stayed at a very nice place called Ashtamudi Homestay. The staff was very friendly and it was just a nice room and good Dosa's in the morning. While going through town we discovered there was something special going on and apparently the world famous guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was here and would 'perform’ at night. He is the founder and leader of the ‘Art of Living’ community which is spread all over the world and has a huge amount of followers.

Julian and me managed to arrange a traditional ‘Lungi’ which looks like a long dress and it can be folded and then it looks like a big diaper hahhaa. This is what most men wear here in Kerala and it looks very funny. At the homestay we met 2 Australian girls and they joined us for the guru event. Very interesting to see thousands (my guess was 10.000 people) of people listening and meditating with this guru. He didn’t reach us to the extent that we would start a course but the evening was a unique one.

Next day a canoe trip in the backwaters. Me and Julian sat down in the 5 meter long wooden canoe and I turned out to be quite hard to gain some speed and to steer this thing through the canals. However, we enjoyed the scenery and many houseboats which passed by and had a good time. In the evening went out for some dinner which took 2 hours MAX to prepare but I must admit it was very nice.

Practical stuff

-          I recommend the Ashtamudi Homestay to everybody so go there!
