Couchsurfing

The plan was to go to Jammu, spend a day and night there and then move to Srinagar. However Jammu is the most shitty town I have ever seen and also when looking for hotels they were expensive. So I decided to take a taxi car for 7 people and go immediately.

In Srinagar I contacted Bilal and his father Riyaz via couchsurfing and after 20 minutes I sat in their house drinking tea. The family consists of 3 children (2 boys 1 girl) and then Riyaz and his wife. I really enjoyed their hospitality and even though it was cold, very misty and there was not a lot to see and to do I enjoyed the warmth of the family. Walking around the streets in my borrowed Kashmir coat I tried to blend in but if they look me in the face my cover was blown.

The plan was to stay longer in the north and check out some mountains and even go snowboarding. But I realized that it is too cold up here to really enjoy and the snow was not yet fallen so snowboarding is not an option yet. No problem, flexibility is an important part of traveling and so a new plan is made to go to the south (and the sun) earlier than expected so I have more time to look around there.

Practical Stuff

-          Do not go to Jammu & Kashmir province in winter. It is cold and there is nothing to see and to do. The only reason to go is for skiing or snowboarding but check first if it is possible.
