The trip to Maralal took a lot longer than expected. I already tried to go Sunday around noon but it took so long that I decided to go the next day. Monday morning also waited 2,5 hour for a bus and started my trip to Maralal via Rumuruti. On the way to Rumuruti I saw some Zebra's passing the road and Camels marching around which was special in my eyes. After waiting another 2,5 hours in Rumuruti I got the next bus to Maralal. Bad roads, some rain but also Elephants close to the road at one point. After dark around 8 pm I made it to town and took a piki piki to the Sunbird guesthouse. A nice place and for 5 euro (500 Ksh) a good room.

It the Lonely Planet this place is described as 'a Wild West town’ and indeed the sandy streets feel like acting in some Western movie. To get from here to Loyangalani is a bit tricky as there are no buses going that side. Speaking to some guys resulted in the knowledge that I have to stay for 2,5 days before a truck full with fish from Kisumu is going that side and I get on. I knew this part of Kenya could be tough and so you just have to accept the situation.

In these days in Maralal I walked around and tried to make some nice shots of all the colorful Samburu and Turkana people. People know here how to deal with tourists who want to make pictures so I had to buy a bag of local Tabaco to bribe all interesting people on my way to put them on my camera.

It seemed that I would have another day in Maralal to wait for the truck but the next morning some guys came to me with the news that there was a truck going that way. Quickly packed my bag and 2 hours later I was on the truck on the way to Loyangalani.

Practical stuff

-          The Sunbird hotel is definitely recommended to go to.

-          If you want to travel north be flexible since transport is not going and coming every day.
