Where I stayed
My ride to Swakopmund was at night in a train. The second train I took in Africa and quite comfortable I must say. Arriving at 6 am and taking a cup of coffee at Villa Wiese where I would spend the night. A real German/ Austrian ski guesthouse but comfortable and nice. I met with Laurens and we made the game plan. But first it was time for Sand boarding. The same equipment as snowboarding but then add a little bit of wax to smoothen it. We both had some snowboard experience so we adapted quickly. A very cool experience after boarding on water and snow.
Time for fun and time to work, we have to arrange the fish river hike, the Sossusvlei and hire a car. Walking around through Swakopmund, calling people and eventually we made it. To celebrate this we went for a great meal at 'Hotel des Deutches Haus'. Starting with Namibian oisters and finishing with a proper German Wienerschnitzel. Eventually to a real bed after two night of sleeping in a bus and a train.
Next morning we picked up the car and after buying the needed food and drinks we were off to the South for a proper Namibia experience.
Practical stuff
- If you don’t want to lose time between Windhoek and Swakopmund take the night train. Quite comfortable and cheap (and it saves you a night at a hostel)
