After 2 weeks of enjoying the Africa Cup of Nations the Zambian national team, aka Chipolopolo boys, are in the final, what an achievement. On the final day we gathered at Kalulu Backpackers where we enjoyed the match against Ivory Coast. A very tight match in which both teams had some possibilities. After the Ivorian star player Drogba missed a penalty the Zambian nation was even more convinced of taking the cup. Eventually the match ended with penalties and after 2 misses of Ivory Coast Zambia pulled it off and the nation went crazy.

For 2 days people were running in the street, shouting, horning their cars en it was one big event. I joined the celebration the day after at Showgrounds where it was crowded as never before. On the news you even heard that people fainted or got wounded due to stampedes.

It is a blessing for Zambia to win the Africa Cup of Nations since they never done it before. The extra dimension it gets is because the entire Zambian national team (except for Kalusha Bwalya) was killed in a plane crash in 1993 in Libreville, Gabon. The same city where the Chipolopolo boys played the final of 2012.
