Where I stayed

The highlight of the trip is ofcourse Livingstone where the Victoria Falls are based. After a 6/7 hour bus ride we arrived at Jollyboys Backpackers where I also stayed before. A real meeting place for backpackers. Me and Temwa had a nice chalet which made me a little bit nervous because it was named 'Honeymoon' hahaha… Im, Niels and dad slept in a 3 people room.

I woke up on my birthday, 3 February, and saw that the house was decorated with all kinds of things…haha what a surprise. We got a nice breakfast and after that went to the Vic Falls. The Falls were amazing since it was the wet season and there was loads of water. Much more impressing then a couple of months ago in the dry season. When we walked around there you got all wet because of the rains from the falls, an amazing experience! We made a lot of pictures of this natural phenomenon and enjoyed with the baboons who were walking around. One baboon even took a plastic bag from another guy and almost ran away with his passport. But Chiculu Martien saved the day by chasing the primate in the bush and returning the passport to its rightful owner. After buying some souvenirs we could go back to the hostel.

At night we went for dinner and celebrated my birthday. I got some nice presents from dad and uncle Wim who brought me some boardgames. Niels and Imke gave me the Microflight trip as a present. This is a sort of bicycle with a kite on top. A very cool experience which Niels, Imke and dad eventually also tried, amazing to see the falls and the beautiful landscape from the sky!

During our time in Livingstone we watched the Zambian football match and celebrated in the streets as a real Zambian. Went to the local disco’s where everybody had fun, especially ‘papa Martien’ with a lot of young Zambian ladies around him J. On Sunday we put Temwa on the bus back to Lusaka and we had another 2 days with the mzungu’s. Had a game drive on the last day and even saw some white rhino’s which was absolutely amazing since these animals are very rare.

After almost a week of fun and relaxing in Livingstone we went back to Lusaka for a quiet night and the day after the return flight for family Van Gaal.
