Up at 5am to finish packing, have a cup of tea & rusk, settle room bill & depart on last game drive at 6am. Some of our group decided to sleep in instead - there sure were sorry!
Headed to gate to find lion tracks - heard that last night there was a group of 8 lions on the road there.
Tracks seemed to lead off into Sabi Sabi reserve so we headed off in other direction
Not long before we came across the male leopard we saw on the first night, watched & followed him for about half an hour.
Amazingly found the lions! Could not take our eyes off the magnificent males, laid-back females & gorgeous playful cubs - aged 2-3 months.
Finally had to leave them, on the way to the gate also saw rare jackal & baboons
Had to wait about 15mins for the rest of the group to join us, then headed off on our 6+ hour drive to JNB airport.
Had breakfast in a box on the bus - really not any more comfortable than the smaller van,
Stopped for about 20 mins at local markets, then kept driving until after 2pm. Crazy distance to drive.
Typical awful fast food at the motorway stop, then off again to make the airport just before 4pm
Raced to refresh, change clothes & check-in on time - only to find our flight was delayed over 7 hours. Devastated.
Checked in anyway - at least I didn't have the hassle most others did trying to rebook connecting flights & overnight accommodation as we get in so late. In fact now get in similar time to P coming back from his conference, so we'll be able to go home together.
