Yesterday and today, we thoroughly enjoyed our ventures through the city. We saw the Botanical Gardens, the National Gallery of Denmark, and much more. The gardens were beautiful and full of exotic plants. The art museum was very nice as well, with lots of interesting modern and traditional art.

We had a very enjoyable time taking a break at a corner cafe and watching all the interesting characters scurry by. Bicycles were everywhere and it was really cool how every major road had nice wide bike lanes on each side. We've included many pictures and a couple short videos. This week was also high school graduation and the tradition is that the students ride around celebrating in large vehicles for days, honking, whistling and screaming.

We loved Nyhavn (pronounced Nuhavn), a quaint fishing canal with lots of boats, restaurants, and sidewalk cafes. We ate traditional Danish dishes there last night (fish cakes and open face sandwiches (fish, roast beef, and shrimp with eggs). And of course all washed down with local Danish beer...yummy!

After breakfast and checking out of our room this morning, we hiked across the river to a commune section of town called Christiana, where many live "off the grid" in their own handmade homes.

Near Christiana we saw the Church of our Saviour which has a really cool spiral steeple with 400 steps to the top where a statue of Jesus represents the victory of Christianity over Europe many centuries ago.

We stopped at a nice little bakery for some coffee and tea then headed back to Nyhavn where we boarded a harbor tour boat. It was very relaxing but the sun was starting to beat down on us and we were happy to get back to some shade.

Then, a little more shopping at Magasin du Nord, a very nice, very large department store and on to the train station and the airport for our trip back to Cambridge.

We had a lovely time in Copenhagen and are looking forward to coming back some day. Although prices are a little on the high side, we would recommend it to anyone.

Another Switzer mishap occurred on the trip to the airport when Shelby and I jumped on the train but the doors closed before Maggie could join us and so she had to catch the next train. Fortunately, the train to the airport ran every eight minutes so she soon found us. Whew...

Back at Cambridge, we ate at Shelby's favorite vegetarian restaurant, The Rainbow, followed by scrumptious desserts at La Margherita.

We will all be going together to the airport tomorrow morning since our flights are only an hour apart; Shelby to Kuala Lumpur and us back to Blythewood.

What a wonderful trip! See you all soon!
