We finally got on the right train to Edinburgh today but once again something happened that made us doubt whether we were going to make it. An hour outside of Peterborough, the train stopped and the conductor informed us that someone ahead had been hit by a train and it was going to cause an extensive delay. We never found out if there were any fatalities (prayers please) but an hour and a half later, we were on our way again.

We checked into our hostel (nice and clean, with free Wi-fi) and then embarked out into the city. Once again luck was on our side as it began to rain and get cold and windy...

We grabbed some fish and chips and Scottish beer, then hiked up the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle, went into a few shops and then did a Scotch whiskey tour. We learned a lot about scotch and sampled a couple. Scotch is basically divided into five varieties based on the region it was distilled in (four single malts and blends).

For supper we decided to check out a Thai-Indian place, which turned out to be an excellent choice. We had lamb madras with a lentil side dish and "hot and sour" soup and spring rolls! The hot spicy food was just the recipe we needed to heartily brave the Scottish elements once again.

We walked to the other end of the Royal Mile (around dusk at 10pm!) where we saw the Scottish Parliament building, Arthur's Seat (an extinct volcano), and Holyrood Palace, the Queen's residence in Scotland.

On our way back to our room, we stopped for a couple of scotches and authentic Scottish music at a local pub named Whiski. Now it's off to bed for some rest before tomorrow's adventure to St. Andrews and Inverness.

'night y'all...
