Where I stayed
Our first stop was the Tower of London, which has been a palace, prison, and fortress of the English royal family since William the Conqueror in the 11th century. We toured the blood-stained buildings, sharing a double ice cream cone to try to avert the terror threatening to overcome us. Afterwards, we further settled our nerves with some fish and chips by the river, followed by a river boat cruise on the Thames.
We got off the cruise in Greenwich, where we wandered around the lush green park crowned by the old Royal Observatory, which is home to the Prime Meridian and sets the world's time
Our next tour bus that looped us back to Trafalgar Square had a hilarious tour guide, who related the histories of everything we passed with the utmost sincerity and drama. One building we passed, which had lots of angular windows, he informed us in a booming voice, was "The Monument to a Window-Cleaner's Nightmare!"
We had dinner in Chinatown -- mmmm! -- then made our way back to the hostel to get ready to part ways the next day and to get an early night after a tiring but laugh-filled adventure.
