Yes, that's the title of one of Maggie's favorite George Strait songs. But who would've thought that on May 1st we would be stranded in Amarillo, Texas during a winter storm, not to mention with a hankerin' for some dark beer and spicy Mexican food. Thank goodness for Maggie and her innate ability to stock the galley of the RV with "all the right stuff". The wind is blowing, the temperature is about 40 degrees and spicy food and dark beer is just what the doctor ordered after what we've been through today.

Winter storm Achilles took the proverbial wind right out of our sails and derailed us with its own winds, forcing us to break camp in Amarillo. The forecast for tonight is for 1-2 inches of snow and high winds. We began to feel the outer bands of the storm coming across the eastern plains of New Mexico and before we reached the Texas border the winds were strong enough to rip and pull two awnings off the side of the RV. Mike pulled over three times to re-secure the awnings and we finally called it quits and pulled into the KOA in Amarillo about 190 miles short of our planned destination of Foss, Oklahoma.

The good news is that the new fuel filter worked like a charm as the RV purred like a great cat up and down the New Mexico mountains today.

The other good news is that we have plenty of food, water, Internet, cable tv, beer, scotch, and propane for the furnace, to survive Achilles. Yeehaw!

By the way, we've been on and crossed the old Route 66 plenty of times.  Here's a great link to more info:  http://www.theroadwanderer.net/route66.htm

A great post. I'm relieved that the fuel filter solved the problem; nevertheless, I'm glad I'm not there with you. However, if I were there, I'd drink the scotch.

I finally caught up on all your travels-what a trip.
