We will never again drive I-10 from San Antonio to El Paso. Whew, what a desolate, wind-swept highway! Around every bend, nothing but scrubby desert as far as the eye can see. And a lot of that was accompanied by high winds. Once, a very strong punch was gusted directly into the side of our overworked motorhome and Mike was forced to slow way down in order to maintain control.

After eight hours, we started feeling the RV chug a little going up hills and the engine warning light came on a few times. But we continued onward and finally our destination, the KOA in Las Cruces, New Mexico, came into view. We made the turn and headed up a small incline on the road in front of the park entrance and the engine died. We tried to restart it to no avail. The RV was dead in the middle of the road 200 yards from our campsite. Then, when we realized we were blocking traffic, we tried to let it roll back down the hill off to the side and wait to see if it would restart in a few minutes. Much easier said than done. With no power, the air system was depleting and the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn. We ended up stopping with the RV almost sideways and completely blocking the road. Cars began wondering what we were doing, so Mike tried one more time to start the engine and it sputtered and gasped and then fired up. We immediately drove it into the campground, breathed a big sigh of relief and popped the tops off a couple beers ( Shiner Bohemian Black Lager from Texas) and relaxed!

Tomorrow, on to Albuquerque and Sante Fe...
