We left Mackinaw City early Wednesday morning and headed out over the huge Mackinac Bridge and onto the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, known as the U.P. If you live in the U.P., you are known as a Yooper. A delicious treat we discovered as we trekked across the U.P. is a pastie (the "past" part of the word is pronounced as "past" not "paste"). We kept seeing billboards for them from various different establishments and finally stopped at a place called Muldoon's somewhere along the coast of Lake Superior and tried a few: a veggie, a chicken, and an apple pastie. Yum, yum! They are like hand-held scone-shaped pot pies. We had never seen them before and not since...so apparently they are a U.P. phenomenom, but they sure are good. Shelby is going to find a recipe and make us some.
Late in the afternoon we arrived at Duluth and parked the RV downtown so we could explore another city. We walked several streets, found some great pizza, then visited the famous Electric Fetus: a music/clothing store from the Sixties. By the time we walked back to the RV, a very dense fog had rolled into the city from Lake Superior and we drove very slowly to our campground on the outskirts of Duluth, set up camp, watched a movie and called it a night.
