                                                                                                            9/19/08
10:35 PM
Hello! Today was kind of a "transport" day. We were allowed to sleep in a bit before we left the Amalfi Coast region at 10:00. We drove for about 2 hours before stopping at a rest stop for lunch. I had a light lunch - best to be hungry for an Italian dinner. After another 2 hours in the bus, we arrived at Circone Hotel in Rome, which is different than the hotel we had originally planned to stay in. The weather in Rome: chilly and drizzling. Not the best weather, but it proves to me that I'm ready to go home. It's been a wonderful, crazy week, but with so little sleep, it is more tiring than a two-week tour. Circone Hotel is nice. We got a handicapped room because there are 3 of us. I did some uneventful shopping before returning in the rain to our room.
At 6:00, we went down to bar and had a brief social get-together with everyone else in our group before heading out to dinner. Thankfully, the rain had stopped by the time we got off, but the cold air was still there. We walked for about 10 minutes and then came upon the Spanish Steps in the Piazza di Spagna. There were quite many stairs and if it hadn't just rained, I would have climbed to the top of them. Flip-flops and wet marble stairs are not the best mix when you have to sit on a plane for 8 hours the next day. I took some pictures and walked up about 4 of the steps before we had to leave to go to the restaurant.
The restaurant was called "Rei dei Amici". The food was fabulous as well as the wine. Pasta course: ravioli with spinach sauce. We then had a light salad before the main course: veal saltimbocca - veal with prosciutto. So Roman - so good. For dessert, we had a small almond-flavored cake with a cup of espresso. I love espresso.  After a wonderful farewell dinner, we left the restaurant and walked quickly back to the bus and drove back to the hotel.
I'm finished packing now and I'm not really looking forward to the plane ride. I enjoyed making new friends and trying new things.

Response to your Italy trip
Kate: Read your diary. It was a pleasure reliving your trip with you. I recommend that other teens show your blog to their grandparents. Perhaps they will get the idea to take their granchild with them on their next trip. You have certainly enriched
Grand Dad and my trip just having you with us. You are a very special grand daughter and both Grand
Dad and I look forward to more adventures with you. Love, Grand Ma.
