Naples is not the prettiest city in all of Italy - in fact, its not even close. Naples obviously has mafia problems due to the overall lack of building and general upkeep in the city. We went to Napoli to visit the Naples Archaeological Museum which contained many frescos, mosaics, glass, and bronze works from Pompeii and its surrounding towns that were also totally destroyed in AD 79. I really liked seeing the mosaics - such detail considering the tools they had 2,000 years ago! After the museum, we said good-bye to Sabrina and headed back to the hotel.
When we arrived at the hotel, I went down to the beach and swam in the sea again. It was so wonderful especially with today's 85°, clear, and sunny weather. I swam with Ellen, another lady in our group. We swam in the pool for a bit but it was cooler than the sea, so we got out. After drying off in the sun, I headed back to my room and got ready for dinner.
Tonight we had another optional tour, "Salerno by Night". We went to a restaurant and had a lovely dinner and dessert. Hors d'oeuvre: frittata (a fried egg quiche with peas, ham, and cheese). Appetizer: cold grilled eggplant with mozzarella and tomato. Pasta course: cannoli, similar to manicotti, but stuffed with eggplant, ricotta cheese, and a bunch of other stuff that was really good. Entrée: pork shops with hazelnut sauce (mine was a little tough, but it was still good). Dessert: coffee mousse (yum!!). I really enjoyed this optional tour. Definitely one of the best meals I've had in Italy. So now it's pretty late, but I can sleep in tomorrow because we're going back to Rome tomorrow. Ciao!
