Where I stayed
We left Prague and went to the main train station to buy a ticket to Krakow, Poland. I think it was an eight hour journey and we looked at each other and said 'not a chance'. We pulled out the map and suggested places to the ticket agent where we could possibly spend the night and make the trip over a two day period. With the language barrier causing somewhat of a problem he finally understood and miraculously said 'I will send you to a nice place in Moravia - 'Olomouc'. We could only trust him and hope for the best.
We arrived in Olomouc several hours later, picked up a local map and inquired about getting into town. On the tram we struck up a conversation with a young girl to make sure we were headed in the right direction. She went well beyond our expectations and was happy to help us out by walking us right to Olomouc's main Square. As we approached the Square our mouths dropped at the site of the huge column dominating the Square, as well as the old church, and buildings. The Tourist Information Office said that Olomouc had been added to the UNESCO World Heritage sites.
We only spent a day in Olomouc because silly us bought a train ticket to Krakow. Even so, we had a great supper in a 'locals' pub, had a nice stroll through a beautiful city park in the RAIN, and participated in the evening 'church scavenger hunt'. It would have been easy to spend another day in Olomouc even if there wasn't much going on to entertain us.
What an unexpected surprise:)
