Merry Christmas everyone! We miss you guys...
Today was a very relaxing day for us here in Umbria. Late last night, Tony, Maren and I went to a little restaurant in Trevi called, "Le Preporsitura" for our Christmas Eve meal. The food was amazing. Maren enjoyed the 5 course "Natale 2007" meal, and was absolutely stuffed by the end. Tony and I each had risotto with truffle oil, grilled vegetables, and some beef prepared in a traditional Italian way. We were there for hours, enjoying our food and drinking some local wine from Assisi. Then, aferwards Tony and I went to the midnight mass at the local duomo. Unfortunately, we didn't stay too long because it was so cold (like being in an igloo), and, we didn't understand much since it was all in Italian. But, it was a beautiful church with a lovely nativity scene and very festive inside.
This morning, we woke up at 11:30am!! Shocking - I don't know when the last time was that I slept that long. It was very relaxing. We woke up and made our traditional Italian coffee, and sat out on the brick wall overlooking the Umbrian valley for breakfast. Then, we decided to walk around the village for over an hour (in our PJs), and take photos of the beautiful buildings. Many homes in Trevi have small windows in which they built traditional nativity scenes for Christmas. We went and toured each of the "Christmas windows" this morning, and took photos of some 15th century murals that we saw. Actually, we were photographing a mural outside someone's home, and they invited us in to see another one painted on the inside. It was fascinating.
We decided to take a drive through Umbria today, and we ended up in the lovely walled hilltown of Todi. Unfortunately, most things were closed, but we didn't mind since the scenery was so beautiful. Upon arriving home, we went out for Christmas dinner at "Maggionie's" here in Trevi. They were so nice, and we had fabulous food and "vino de la casa". It is now close to midnight and we're calling it a day. Tomorrow we're headed to Florence to explore the museums and the shopping.
Merry Christmas - we miss you guys.
Love,
Heidi & Tony
