Gerry's Tale.....

What a contrast, no sooner had the clock struck the witching hour of midnight than it was as if a switch had been thrown!!!

Biffed, beaten and bruised, the tent  had become the weather's punchbag.

After an interupted night we awoke to heavy leaden skies, black with anger.

Today's walk would take us from Spreyton village hall, where thay also have a great community shop, to the outskirts of Crediton. It is amazing that we are now mentioning places that seem only a 'stones throw' away from home.

The distance covered today were mainly along lanes, so a bit more 'bitumen bashing' with a small footpath section along the River Yeo a tributary of the Exe at the end. There is a compromise with road walking, you cover the ground quicker but often at the expense of a vista.

Most lanes are hemmed in by high hedges or walls, so gateways provide the only means of a view, as you can appreciate the hedges/walls don't need to be too high for my vertically challenged stature.

As we proceeded the heavens frequently had us looking for cover, but the journey passed quickly.

Today's jaunt concluded at the very quaint Crediton Railway Station, which displayed several old Victorian signs and memorabelia along with useful historical facts.

For the third evening in a row, I will have 'died and gone to heaven', Sue is happy to read and catch up with the news after we have eaten dinner, as I again watch the live football on the Taw River Inn. The pub is situated in the centre of Sticklepath, opposite the renowned Finches Foundry National Trust Tourist attraction. The Inn provides a brillaint variety of homecooked meals for less than £6 and a selection of 5 Real Ales priced at no more than £2.30p per pint, all servedby Keith, a jolly Inspector Frost lookalike.

This week our tight budject can stretch to more than Sainsbury's Restaurant fayre.

Goodnight..
