The pub was good fun and woke up with a slight headache this morning. Was a live band and people literally dancing on tables - & it was a Monday night! As I walked my way to the train station I got a bit lost and then missed the next train to Cannes because my credit card wasn't accepted by the ticket machine and then it only took coins, which of course I did not have enough for the 6.10 euro fare. So, after eventually getting a ticket, the train took 1hr 20 mins!! Whereas the Lonely Planet guide said 20 mins! Something must’ve been a bit off cause the train stopped at every station, but on the way back was express and took just the 20 mins. Annoying.

I decided against St Tropez, because there is no train and it is a pain to get there. So, I just spent the day in Cannes, which is much more bustling than Nice. More shops, more people, more everything. First stop was the red carpet steps to the film festival theatre – very underwhelming. The carpet is stained and scarred leading to a building that is simple & uninspiring. Ate a great veal steak at a restaurant just opposite the theatre, then ventured up to the old town and castle. The beaches here are much better than Nice.

Trained back to Nice in 1st class – I only paid 2nd class but 1st is empty so u just walk in there and take a seat. Watched the sunset down on the beach and ate the best lasagne I’ve ever eaten.
