This week went very fast. I think it was because I was working and then outside of work I was researching and planning for my break. I was given a kettle for my room, which may sound like a small pathetic thing, but it is the little stuff that makes these 4 walls more bearable. Also, I now have wireless internet access in my room via the newmont network which is great. But newmont blocks all the fun stuff here - can't even do my footy tips!

Ghana had a Public Holiday on Wednesday for African Union Day. I worked it so I could get out on my break a day earlier; besides if I took the day off, there isn't much to do anyway. It was a quiet day at work and enabled me to focus on getting a Management Plan finished, which I have had hanging over my head for months now. I need to get of the office more tho. I’ve got the paperwork for my Driving Permit, so will hopefully get that next swing and be able to drive around site when I want.

Whilst typing this, I sprayed a big spider on my room floor. It reminded me of the numerous bugs here. On a daily basis I have ants crawling over my desk at work. Little tropical sugar ants. It might be to do with biscuits that I would take from the mess and eat in the afternoon, but I have stopped that now and they still roam my desk and crawl over my computer monitor. I’ve gone from dust at Boddington, to ants at Akyem...I would rather the ants tho.

I’ve booked most of my break. I fly out to Nice Saturday 4th. Then Monte Carlo and across to Athens where I will start a 10 day Top-deck tour. Same tour company I used in Egypt and best way to get around the islands, even tho I would rather do it on my own and not have to share rooms. Should be an experience on many levels! Then somehow get to Southern Italy and do a bit of exploring. I’ve been to Monaco in Oct 2009, but Greece and Southern Italy are the 2 places that I didn’t get to in my 2009 Euro Adventure, so I am really happy that I will be able to get to them this time. Back to Accra on 28th and head back to site on 29th. This is a longer break as I’m taking a week of my Australian annual leave before it got paid out. Otherwise it is just 2 weeks.

My next entry will be from Nice!!
