Saturday, May 8, 2010

This was day was a bit like being on a package holiday. Organised tours and bus trips.

It was nice and beautiful scenery but no adventure.

We all set out on a mini bus to see the sacred valley on our way to Ollantaytambo. Wilber and Carlos our guides were able to give us loads of information and were very knowledgeable about everything.

Wilber had done this trip a couple of thousand times and in-between trips he works for children's charity and trains the British SAS in mountain trekking. Carlos was the rookie, he was also known as the playboy! They knew their stuff. Once a year the have a guide/porter competition and what takes us a three days trek they run in 5 hours! fit guys to say the least!

First stop was a 'surprise' stop when we seen a llama herds woman on the side of the road. Even though wilber had been on his mobile 5mins before to warn her we were on the way. She posed for photos for tips and we got to stretch our legs and look at the wonderful valley.

The day was long enough with a nice buffet lunch at a ranch type restaurant and a few stops to see ruins.

When we got to Ollantaytambo we settled in and headed straight to the ruins that soared over the village. At this height they where high! I could barely breath walking up the steps! All 5 millions of them! or so it seemed.

We have now gone down to 2780 m but still feeling the altitude.

Back to bed for a hour before dinner! then straight to bed.

Ready for the BIG DAY!
