Hi I am at the same old place and I visited a canyon. The canyon is called Canyon de Somoto. It is near a town called Somoto. First we took a bus from Esteli to Somoto and then we took a cab to the park entrance. We would have had to walk from the park entrancce to the canyon but we got a ride from someone in their truck. They wouldn't have been able to get there without us because their truck kept getting stuck in the river. There were 3 river crossings on the way in and 3 on the way back. The canyon was very deep and it was hard to get to the part where we could swim. We had to climb over many high rocks to get there and it was a little dangerous. We took a boat ride back which was so fast. We didn't have a motor but he was an awesome rower. He was about 35 years old.
We had lunch in the canyon. We had a very crevicy lunch. I swam in the water, but it was so cold. If you plunked an ice cube in, it wouldn't melt for a year. We brought 2 friends along with us, called Betty Rodriguez and Walter Garcia.
Did you know that the churches in Nicaragua are east of the central park. Because when the sun rises it is coming up behind the church. It is because a long time ago, hundreds of years, the people here beleived in the sun god and the church used that belief when they built their churches.
