First destination was Nerja, which all the guide books said was the first reasonable place (i.e. not ruined by tourism) north of Malaga. After a pretty boring bus ride, I humped my backpack off and headed for a taxi, but the driver said my Hotel was only five minutes away and gave me directions how to walk there. Ten minutes later I was lost, but some helpful people pointed me in the right direction and after another 15 minutes found the Hotel. My shoulder - still recovering from the operation - hadn't appreciated the half-hour of backpacking (I never travel light) and not for the first time I wondered why the taxi-driver hadn't accepted my fare. (This happened before in Como) I wondered if it was because I'm backpacking that the taxi-driver thinks I cannot afford the fare? Or because I came off the bus?
