We left Thornton around 6:30 A.M. In Utah, we traveled the Backroads off I-70 from Sigurd (Highway 24) through the bustling metropolis of Koosharem (highway 62). From there, we had lunch just past Angle at Lake ? unnamed but nice none the less.  We proceeded South on Johns Valley Road (22) stopping by Osiris to see an old mill. We also geocached along the way.

Passing Widstoe Junction, we dubbed the road Horse Poop Highway as there was a several mile long section where the road was covered in...you guessed it...horse poop. No way to avoid it all, it was squishy and slippery on the tires of our RAV 4 .  We eventually hit Highway 12 by Bryce canyon and proceeded West to Highway 89. This section takes you through Red Canyon, a mini Bryce wonderland of Hoodoos and red rock spires. A couple of more Geocaches and we pulled into Kanab at around 5:00 P.M.

A good and filling barbecue dinner at Denny's Wigwam followed by ice cream cone dessert at the Three Bears. Tomorrow we pick up our overnight permits at the BLM office in Kanab.
