We took a 45 minute drive to see Smoky Mountains National Park. (http://www.nps.gov/grsm/)
We stopped at the Visitor's Center and explored the Mountain Farm Museum. Holden was disappointed that they didn't have any cows or pigs, but he enjoyed the chickens and the Oconaluftee River!
For lunch, we drove further into the Park on Newfound Gap Road and had a nice picnic. Afterward, we drove up to a mountain peak for an amazing overlook of Newfound Gap.
Unfortunately, we never did see any wildlife, though I understand the Smoky's are home to black bears, elk, and beavers. We never even saw a squirrel!
I did get some spectacular photos, though - be sure to take a look.
That night, we cooked hot dogs and corn on the grill and had a nice dinner on the back porch.
