Where I stayed
We return to Bellagio, as we had such a wonderful experience here on our Honeymoon three years ago. Not much has changed, it's still fabulous. (This was Dawn's pick for a return stay, John's choice, another small town along the water, will come later in the trip.) The gardens are meticulously manicured, the air smells of gardenias and the 360 degree landscape is a life-size postcard. The many silk shops tucked away along tiny vias make shopping for ties and scarves a fun challenge.
Last night we dined on the terrace overlooking Lake Como and ate delicioso risotto, gnocchi and fish from the lake as well as local formaggio. A good bottle of wine, music and good company made the evening's experience complete and perfect. And, of course, a little Lemoncello to end the evening, si!
We took a boat today for an excursion on the Lake. We saw many of the most sumptuous villas with exquisitely landscaped grounds that stretch right down to the banks of the lake, some wonderfully shaded throughout by the canopies of cypress trees. The excursion allowed us to visit other waterfront towns, and get a little insiders look from our guide, Angelo, who pointed out some of the more famous or historic villas including Sir Richard Branson's (Virgin Air) villa and Villa Balbianello, which was featured in movies Star Wars: Episode II and Casino Royale. It was a lovely cruise and ended just in time, as it started to rain.
We'll step out, now for an afternoon cappuccino and to peak into a few more shops and a stroll along the waterfront to remind ourselves of how lucky we are to live in this moment and to be here together.
Ciao.
