Where I stayed

As we are only here for one night, we wanted to experience Lucerne This morning we took a walking tour through Lucerne... stopping to spend Swiss Franks on chocolate and strudel.

The Fall weather was perfect, as we were able to see the Swiss Alps and Mount Pilatus which abruptly tower over the Lake. In the old part of the town, we found tiny pedestrian squares, old chapels and covered bridges crossing the Reuss River. We spent a good part of the morning on the hill overlooking the old city, climbing along the Musegg Wall, a fortress wall and watch towers constructed in 1386. It is truly a step back in time and gives you a sense of what life was like when knights were walking the paths and towers, protecting the city. From the top of the watch towers, you can see the steeple roof of the buildings of Lucerne and hear chiming of clocks every hour. The Zyt Tower, part of the Musegg Wall is home to the oldest city clock, built back in 1535, which still works perfectly. Run by stone weights and pendulums, the clock's bell is allowed to chime one full minute before the other clocks in the city.
