Today Wolfi took me on a surprise journey by scooter into the Black Forest. We took a popular motorbiking route and were passed by many bikes being driven quickly up the winding road through the mountain. We stopped for lunch at a deli on the side of the road, then continued up the mountain a bit further until we reached Dom St. Blasien. The exterior of the domed cathedral looks quite old but the interior was completely destroyed and rebuilt so everything is shiny and white inside.

From the cathedral we continued on up the mountain until we got to Schluchsee. We walked along the lake briefly before heading up to the top of the mountain by foot. At the top there is an observation deck where you can look down on the Black Forest and the lake. It was a really beautiful day and a fun activity, even though we had to carry our helmets through our hike. On the way back down to the lake, Wolfi led me off the path for a "short cut" that ended in a very large marsh. We turned around and after I got stuck in some thorn bushes, made him promise not to stray off the path again.

We had a energizing snack near the lake, including a cold beer and a little Black Forest birthday cake. Delicious!
