Tripping!

Every Friday the entire camp goes on a trip together. The trips are wicked fun, even if most of the day is spent on the bus and we lose our voices from yelling "sit down" non stop! Lunch is Dominos pizza, pop and candy eeeeeeeevery trip so the kids are always really hyper! First trip was to Aqua-boggin (ahh-qwah bog in), a massive water park with slides, tubes, giant jumping pillows, wave pool and a huge vertical drop shaped like a taco. I was coaxed onto the taco by a 7 year old and screamed the whole way. Then I spent a solid 1.45hrs in a paddle boat with 10 year old Alexa just talking about Australia and trying to find turtles. I get paid to do this?!!!!!

Second trip was to a cute fishing village called Boothbay Beach for lunch and ice cream, then down to the ocean for a dip (too cold for Aussies!) Lunch was not fun, as my co-counsellor Katie and I had to juggle a pack of 14 hungry, busting, slow moving, loud talking, rough, sticky fingered, Spanish speaking girls from Mexico City. We finally got them all fed (pizza, cheesy mac and chicken fingers) and rushed them out of the deli before we were kicked out. It was their 4th day in the country so they were a little bit difficult (ie. a pack of 7 girls closed in on the waitress, screaming, pushing and grabbing at her to get the last piece of cheese pizza, 5 pushed themselves halfway into the kitchen because they wanted their hot chips to be cooked instantly, whilst the last two walked up and down the aisles pocketing candy and toiletries!! ketchup and mayo completely coated the table & floor and drinks were spilled as the little monkeys pushed each other around!)

Next trip was a small disaster. After a 2hr bus ride with 175 kids, we went berry picking at a blueberry farm with NO TOILETS! Then we moved onto a beautiful harbour and lighthouse picnic spot for lunch with NO GARBAGE BINS! Then just as we were starting our pizza we looked up and saw the biggest, darkest clouds literally rolling towards us and lightening flashing! We sprinted, screaming to the buses and only JUST got everyone inside in time. Maine radio stations were going insane with hurricane and hail warnings and the rain just poured in through the bus windows (that were rusted open!!!) Kids all managed to drop their blueberries and crush them into the floor so along with rainwater, there was a berry juice river flowing down the bus aisle! We drove and drove until we finally reached a wildlife park...with CANDY!! Oh deeeeeeeeear. Hyper, wet and purple coloured kids...not good!

Next trip was to Funtown Splashdown which was a theme park/waterpark combo and was amazing! My girls and I had a ball. It was half way through camp, so all the first session kids had left and all the second session kids were back at camp just arriving. All of my girls and the other kids staying the full 8 weeks at camp came on the trip. Frances (Kiwi), Amanda (Brit) and I took 9 girls from my cabin around all day and ate A LOT. I had such a good time because for once I could chill with the girls and do fun things with them instead of being the evil dragon who only spent time yelling/cleaning with them!!
