Up early to catch flight to Nairobi. Kathryn got the lodge's driver to pick me up at 7:30, for 10 am flight. Worst. Driver. Ever. Slow, confused, frightened, etc. It was all I could do not to scream at him. I mean, Jesus, how can you drive everday like Mr Magoo? Anyway, Zanzibar airport is more like a bus station. Just walk up, bags are weighed and then they give you ticket. Go through "security" and then into holding cell. They call flights by literally yelling them out through the room.

However, Kenyan Airways, so much better than anything in North America. Enough legroom for me to cross my legs in my seat. They load on the back and the front, which really gets things moving. Flight was only an hour, so got through visa and baggage pretty quickly. Hotel is only 10 mins from airport (at least it is with a proper cabbie, who cuts people off and drives dangerously over the limit, the way they're supposed to). Was given fresh juice while I waited to check in, very friendly concierge took me and my crap to my room. Realize now I tipped him the cost of a minibar Coke, about $3.50. Will have to do better on check out. I should have checked currency rate beforehand. Room is nice, if compact. Overlooks the game park, though I haven't seen any animals out there yet. Will order room service and sit around in my provided robe, just cause I can. TV looks pretty shite though. Though it seems Discovery Channel has an old episode of Idiot Abroad on, so that should help pass the time.Bed is hard as a rock, so don't imagine sleeping much. Have to be out by 6:15 tomorrow morning anyway.

The wifi at this fancy hotel is quite slow. And only available in the lobby, which seems silly, at $200+ a night for a basic room. Trying to download some new shows to watch, but running out of steam. Going to try a Kenyan cheeseburger for dinner. That, or the "American" pancakes. I fear they won't be quite so American, and, therefore, just disappointing. It's a little boring here. Under strict orders not to leave hotel. The orders are, of course, from Officer Foley. Spent an hour wandering through the fancy gift shop, but didn't buy anything, much to their disappointment. Too much to carry. Will buy most of my gifts in Jo'burg, except for the small pieces I've picked up along the way. Man, the keyboard on this computer blows. Very sticky.
