Our second day in Italy we decided to take the train into Florence, which was only about an hour and a half away. It was actually my first train ride too! The first thing we went to see in Florence was Michelangelo's statue of David, which wasn't disappointing! It was actually much bigger than I expected and the detail was amazing. Then we went to the Duomo which is like this cathedral but it's colored and really neatly decorated on the outside and that was really pretty. The rest of the day we spent walking around. Florence definitely feels more Italian than Rome because it has all these knock-off markets, outdoor cafes, gelato places, and a lot of pricy stores like Dolce & Gabana. There was also a really pretty river in Florence with these pictaresque colored buildings along it. We wanted to ride a gondola but all of them were docked, probably because it was too cold. So overall Florence was a nice little day trip and a different side of Italy.
