We caught the Eurostar from Paris under the channel to London.  It is a good way to travel from France to England.  It sure beats the waiting time, with check-in & customs, that's involved with air travel.  There's no baggage limits either.   We caught a taxi from the St Pancras station (all beautifully restored and expanded for the Olympic games) in a traditional black London cab. The taxi driver was a pleasant & helpful chap who even blessed us by capping the cost of the trip when we had trouble finding where we actually were booked to stay.  He was the one who told us that the locals refer to this new development of apartments that has been built by the Thames and up from the O2 arena as "Legoland".  The pictures will explain ...  It's not as swish or as centrally located as our Paris accommodation but it has everything that we need (yet more expensive than Paris!).

Our first night in London we caught up with Matthew (my nephew) and his girlfriend Marie to have tea out together at the O2 arena.  He recommended another Italian restaurant and it was wonderful again!  The O2 arena certainly is a very large complex.  We've seen nothing like it for size in Australia.  I think our Melbourne & Sydney arenas and possibly Brisbane would all fit inside it together!  It's got a massive street of restaurants tucked in under it's cover that allows people to eat 'alfresco' even when it's cold & rainy.  Very good designing for London weather!  They've also got a huge cinema tucked in there too, which we went to on the Friday.
