Our adventures continue in the city we call home! Get out, plenty of free stuff this weekend in and around town!
DragonCon runs through Sunday evening in downtown Atlanta at the Marriot, Hyatt and Hilton Hotels. "Dragon*Con is the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the universe!" Let's just say it's outrageous. Mecca had an absolute blast posing with characters from Cinderella to Pinhead. It's like Halloween on steroids. It's free to cruise the lobbies of the hotels and just hangout. I'm not sure what admission is to the seminars and exhibits. We took the Marta train to the Peachtree Center station and walked across the street to the party.
Also going this weekend is the Decatur Book Festival. "This festival is the largest independent book festival in the country" according to its sponsors. Book signings, kids parade, teen activities, guest speakers, there's something for everyone! Check out their website for a full schedule: http://www.decaturbookfestival.com.
Last weekend the Central Library hosted An Afternoon of Viennese Classical Music in the auditorium featuring two pieces by Beethoven. We enjoyed an hour and a half of beautiful sonatas played by two accomplished musicians. Check out the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library website for their schedule of free events and activities.
And a couple of weekends ago we rented bicycles at Piedmont Park (not free but only $6.00 per hour) and rode through the beautiful park on a mild summer's day. After our ride we walked around the Arts Festival (free) and had the tastiest popsicles ever by King Pops.

I saved this for last to savor. It was worth the wait! Thanks, I really enjoyed your adventure. Makes Atlanta look really good.
