We left Hawaii on Thursday, June 14th and arrived home in Atlanta on Wednesday June 20th.  No we didn't sail across the Pacific over to the Atlantic--we flew standby!

I've decided when you have more money than time, you buy a ticket.  But when you have more time than money, flying standby can be quite an adventure.  And since we had way more time than money, we made the most of it.

We arrived at the Honolulu airport at 10:30am for our flight.  The flight was overbooked and we were close to last on the standby list so we missed the first flight.  We had 8 hours to kill before the next flight.  Luckily the NBA playoff games were on so that killed 3 hours.  We missed the second flight and by 10:30pm we were pretty tired and very flexible with our flying arrangements.  Mecca and I got the last 2 seats on the redeye.  Thomas spent the night in the airport.

We waited for Thomas in L.A. at my friends house.  Had a great evening hanging out with my friend and a good night's sleep.  Thomas was beat so he needed a soft coach to crash on. Saturday morning we headed to Bakersfied to spend 2 nights with my folks.  Returned to LAX Monday morning only to miss 3 flights to Altanta. Things weren't looking good--all the flights to Atlanta were overbooked.  So we went to Las Vegas to hang with another friend.  Ended up spending two nights in Las Vegas.

Back to the airport (by this time it's Wednesday.)  Even though there were seats available when I booked our seats from Las Vegas to Atlanta, by the time we reached the airport, 2 flights were overbooked and we were number 40 something on the wait list.  So we flew through Memphis.  We got the last 3 seats on that flight only because a man's wife got delayed somewhere in the airport.

Seven days later we arrived home in Atlanta after having spent countless hours in the airport.  But we had a blast along the way so it really wasn't bad at all.

What a wonderful adventure. The memories you guys created as a family are just ... great. Sorry you had to return so soon, but I'm sure a new adventure is just around the corner.
