Kailua has been pretty busy this past week.  Our quiet beach town held the grand opening for the new Whole Foods Market last Thursday, then celebrated the 20th "I Love Kailua Town Party" on Sunday.

You see, in Los Angeles (where I spent most of my life), the opening of a Whole Foods probably isn't that big of a deal. There are so many choices, that a new market just adds a little bit to the mix.  But here in Kailua where you have one local bookstore, one Starbucks in town, and just enough restaurants to keep from being truly bored, a new Whole Foods is a really big deal!  I stayed away the first day because I knew it would be swamped, and days 2, 3, and 4 have still been a mad house. (Yes, I've been there daily myself, what can I say, it's new!)  The store is definitely first class.  The finest produce, fishes and breads.  They even have a poke bar which is a Hawaiian raw fish dish.  We go there for snacks, for dinner, to do homework, and just to get out and about.  And it's open until 10pm!  Yahoo, for those nights when I'm dying for something to do after 8pm.

On Sunday Thomas set up his art at the "I Love Kailua Town Party" festival.  I had prepared for us to be deluged with customers: I designed a banner, we had several prints ready to go, we had our phones ready to process PayPal payments, and I had extra order forms printed in case we sold out of a print.  Well by the end of the beautiful spring day, we were carrying back pretty much everything we had brought out, minus several business cards and a print.  But you never know, our primary goal was exposure of his art, and that we had plenty of!

Hi guys! That's a great Whole Foods! I'd love to shop there and it looks like the townspeople are feeling the same. The Arts Fair looked like fun and your display was beautiful. You'll probably sell a lot of it here in Atlanta where we need the escape of a lovely landscape like Hawaii - the artwork is breathtaking! Sandra, your island dress you were wearing is gorgeous! You guys look so happy! Miss you and enjoy! Aloha.
