Since writing part one on this topic, I've taken a closer look at my life to see how cooperation is and isn't showing up.  I have two instant mirrors for how cooperative I'm being: Thomas and Mecca!  And since we spend so much time together, it's hard to get away from my feedback.  (NOTE TO THOMAS--as I've said before, you can't use what I write in my blog against me....)

I'll start with Mecca.  I can tell when I'm off when she starts to be totally uncooperative with me.  Everything becomes a struggle with her.  Simple requests are answered with a no!  No, I don't feel like picking up my clothes.  No, I don't want to turn off the light for you.  Or just plain no.  And then she may get bratty or snappy with me.  It's totally annoying, but if I'm able to step back a moment and remember that I was feeling bratty or snappy myself, usually I can shift her mood pretty quickly.  When I don't remember to step back, then it just becomes a power struggle with me ending up even more frustrated because she let's go of things easier than I do and goes about her life.  The wisdom of a six year old is priceless at times.

On to Thomas.  Now this is the man who is my partner, my husband, my best friend and greatest supporter so you'd think it would be easy to be cooperative with him.  Well, let's just say I have a new commitment to cooperation in my relationship.  And I like the results.  Since I've been willing to be more cooperative in general, he's being more cooperative as well.  Stuff like instead of telling me what he's going to do about something that impacts me, he asks me how I feel about it.  When I'm asked instead of told, I can actually hear what he's saying and respond with cooperation versus feeling like I have to compete with him to stay in control. Makes life much more harmonious.  Also, I find I'm laughing more at the things that used to annoy me. So I'm much more peaceful and cooperative in general.

All in all if I want cooperation in my life, I have to be cooperative.  I like life a whole lot better when there is peace and harmony around me. (With that said, maybe me and Mecca shouldn't play card games anymore.  Boy are we competitive!)
