We visited Pearl Harbor last week.  I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really wanted to go there.  Like many, I read about Pearl Harbor in the history books, learned just enough to pass a test, and moved on to the next subject.  Actually being at the site was a very moving experience for me.  I was overcome by emotion on our visit.  We toured the USS Arizona Memorial  which marks the resting place of 1,102 of the 1,177 sailors killed on the ship during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.  Even though Mecca may not remember the details from these early years, I believe the experiences she's having will have a permanent impact on her life.  Visiting a historic site is far more meaningful than reading about it in a history book.  Gotta love homeschooling!

I totally agree, Sandra. The experience you all are having does not compare with the way we were taught history in school.

What an amazing journey, especially for Mecca...

Love you all.
