We rented a car on Monday because Thomas got his first construction gig in Waikiki (yeah!)  It's a couple of days of work in the city doing remodeling work on a condo.  Taking full advantage of having wheels for a day, we set off to make the most of it.

First stop, Walmart.  I'd heard Walmart or Costco has the best price for snorkeling gear.  It's cheaper to buy it than rent it over and over again.  We brought Mecca's with us, Thomas found a cool set at the Goodwill, so I needed to get something.  And I wanted to compare grocery prices with Safeway.

I picked up my gear, a life vest for Mecca and a few other things.  Then we headed to North Shore where there is fantastic snorkeling.  Oh, but only during the summer months when the water is calm we quickly discovered.  Now that I had my gear, I was determined to snorkel, somewhere.  We drove to the Windward side of the island and found a calm bay to test out our equipment.  Let's just say it wasn't my best snorkeling experience.  The water was coooollllddd. There were no fish to be seen, and my mask leaked quite a bit.  But the good thing is I think we got the kinks worked out so we should be ready to go next time.

Next, off to a hike at Waihe'e Falls Trail about 10 miles down the road.  By this time it's late afternoon and the sun is setting quickly, but we venture out anyway.  It was a beautiful trail, but we didn't make it to the falls because we turned around before it got too dark.

What an amazing journey and experience. Your blog posts just reminds me how safe and predictable life can be when things get comfortable... Specifically, my life. Can't wait to "feel" the next step of your hawai'i escapade.
